Uhrhan leads Cougars to split

         Mandy Uhrhan (Dupo) blasted a pair of homers and scored a winning run as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville split with Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday.
         SIUE, 29-10 overall and 13-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, defeated Wisconsin-Parkside (20-12, 10-4) 5-4 in the opener and lost the nightcap 6-3.
         Wisconsin-Parkside grabbed a 4-0 lead after two innings in game one behind a two-run homer from Lacey Hughes. The Cougars countered with Uhrhan's two-run blast.
         Tied 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Uhrhan doubled off the fence in left center to lead off the inning. Jill Ibeck (Bartonville) then put down a perfect bunt. Although it was intended to be a sacrifice, the ball trickled past Wisconsin-Parkside starter-loser Jessica Siegel. With no one backing her up and the second baseman covering first base, Uhrhan rounded third and scored the winning run.
         In game two, Uhrhan ripped her second home run of the day, but Wisconsin-Parkside took to the offense with five unearned runs in the sixth inning. SIUE rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't close the gap.
         SIUE now awaits rival Lewis on Saturday. Game time for the doubleheader is 1 p.m. at Cougar Field.
