Rob Baumgardner hit two free throws with 3.7 seconds left as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville held on for a 68-66 non-conference men's basketball victory Monday night at the Vadalabene Center.
       SIUE, 4-5, has now won three straight games and hopes to get in the win column in the Great Lakes Valley Conference on Thursday when it entertains Missouri-St. Louis at 7:30 p.m.
       The Cougars got off to a slow start against Oakland City, 2-8. SIUE was down 10-2 to start the game and was behind by as many as 10 in the first half. But foul trouble to Oakland City's Alexious Osumenya helped the Cougars come back with a 36-34 lead by halftime.
       SIUE picked up most of its offense off the bench with Ron Heflin leading the Cougars with 16 points while Logan Glosser and Justin Ward added 12 and 12 points, respectively. Ron Jones was the lone Cougar starter in double figures with 15 points.
       Clint Weddle led the Mighty Oaks with 16 points. Osumenya, who missed a last-second shot inside the paint, ended up with 14 points.
