SIUE, Lewis Split in GLVC Baseball

         SIUE (14-9, 3-2 GLVC) had a five-run lead erased in game two of a doubleheader and settled for a split with Lewis (12-8, 1-2 GLVC).
         The Cougars won game one 7-2 but lost the nightcap 7-6 in 11 innings. SIUE won the first game 7-2 in the seven-inning battle. Nick Seibert (Edwardsville) went six innings to improve his season record to 3-0. Luke Humphrey (Springfield, Mo.) blasted a three-run triple in the six-run second inning to key the victory.
         In the second game, the Cougars outhit Lewis 16-4 but could not pull off the victory. Nick Seibert contributed a two-run homer in the third inning to help get the Cougars' off to their 5-0 lead, but Lewis was able to come back in the sixth inning and score five runs. Lewis scored the eventual winning run as Chris Maynard scored from second off a rare Chad Opel (Edwardsville) error off the bat of Mike Godfrey.
         SIUE and Lewis play the rubber game on Sunday. Game time has been moved to 11 a.m. instead of noon.
