No. 4 SIUE Sweeps UW-Parkside

       KENOSHA, Wis. - No. 4-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville extended its winning streak to 11 games and remains undefeated in Great Lakes Valley Conference softball with a sweep over Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.
       SIUE improved to 29-6 overall and 8-0 in the GLVC. Wisconsin-Parkside fell to 9-7 overall and 2-4 in the GLVC.
       RyAnn Spann (Bethalto) ran her record to a GLVC-leading 16-2 with a four-hitter in game one. Spann fanned nine and walked two.
       Spann outdueled Jessica Siegel, who allowed five Cougar hits.
       SIUE's biggest hit was a two-run double down the left field line from Erin Newman (Fairfield, Calif.) The Cougar senior drove home Jenny Esker (Steeleville) and V.J. Schmidt (Westmont) in the third inning for the eventual game-winner.
       In game two, Dawn Farmer (Columbia) improved her record to 2-0 in allowing four hits.
       Valerie McCoy's (Bethalto) RBI single in the fourth inning proved to be the winning hit.
       SIUE returns home for a GLVC doubleheader on Wednesday against Southern Indiana at Cougar Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
