Mark Bugger Becomes SIUE's All-Time Hits Leader

Box Score

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) Mark Bugger's career at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville can be summed up with the words of a radio disc jockey, "the hits just keep on coming."
On Friday Bugger's four hits, two of which were home runs, gave him 274 in his career. He passed Mark Briggs, who had 272 hits from 1995-1998, to become SIUE's all-time hits leader. He also added seven RBI in the Cougars' 15-7 victory over Grand Valley State.
In his first at bat Bugger walked, but he tied the record in the Cougars' four-run third inning with a two-RBI double. The Cougars built a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning, when Bugger broke the record with a two-RBI triple to center field.
Matt Wilkinson pitched six solid innings for the Cougars. He gave up four hits and four earned runs in six innings to pick up the win. In the seventh inning, the Cougars exploded for five runs on three
home runs. Todd Haug led off the inning with a home run and Bugger and Crouthers later tagged back-to-back home runs.
In his last at bat of the game, Bugger needed only a single to achieve the allusive hitters cycle of one home run, one triple, one double, and one single. Instead, he hit his second home run of the game.
This season, Bugger has 28 hits in 56 at bats for a batting average of .500. Against left handed pitching he is hitting .706. -siue-
