Cougars Drop Five-Set Thriller

         After falling behind 2-1 in games, Northern Kentucky stormed back and won games four and five en route to a five-set victory over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville at the Vadalabene Center today.
         Both teams played back-and-forth, with SIUE winning games one and three, and NKU claiming games two and four. Northern Kentucky edged SIUE in game five to take the match.
         Northern Kentucky (6-6, 4-1) was led offensively by Nicole Salisbury, who hammered 27 kills on 57 attempts for a .316 hitting percentage. She also added 10 digs for a double-double. Kristin Koralewski and Cammi Welter contributed 19 and 16 kills, respectively.
         SIUE (12-4, 2-1) was led by Jennifer Trame (Highland) who had 19 kills on 41 attempts for a .341 hitting percentage. Andrea Voss (St. Rose) added 12 kills. Amanda Wulfe (Vacaville, Calif.) led the defense with 24 digs.
         The loss is the first at home in Coach Todd Gober's two-year career, a span of 11 matches.
         SIUE will travel outside of the GLVC for a Tuesday match against Rockhurst. The game, which will be played at Pattonville High School in Maryland Heights, Mo., will begin at 7 p.m. The Cougars then battle GLVC foe Quincy on Friday at 7 p.m., then take on Truman State Saturday at 1 p.m. in a non-conference matchup.
