Cougars Roar Past SJC

         SIUE's volleyball team produced its sixth-consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference victory today with a 3-0 sweep of Saint Joseph's College at the Vadalabene Center. Game scores were 30-14, 30-20 and 30-19.
         SIUE is now 21-4 overall and improves its conference-best record to 9-1. It's 21 victories equals the number of victories in each of Coach Todd Gober's first two seasons.
         Andrea Voss led the team offensively with 12 kills on 20 attempts. Kindra Westendorf and Allison Buss followed with nine and eight kills, respectively.
         Buss' 14 digs anchored a defense that allowed only 23 SJC kills and a .022 hitting percentage. Beth DeGreeff added 11 digs on the afternoon.
         Tricia Happe posted five aces and added five kills. Her five aces are tied for the most aces in a match by an SIUE player this season.
         Krystal Majernik's 36 assists helped the Cougars to a .477 hitting percentage.
         Jill Mourey led Saint Joseph's (6-21, 3-9) with seven kills. Libero Beth Lipinski posted nine digs for SJC.
         Next up for the Cougars is an Oct. 31 conference match at Southern Indiana. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
