Box Score

November 14, 2003

(HIGHLAND HTS., KY.) Despite five players with 10 or more kills, Southern Illinois University fell to Indianapolis in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament.
SIUE, 24-7, must now wait for Sunday's expected announcement of the 48-team field for the NCAA Championships. The Cougars were ranked sixth in the Great Lakes Region heading into the GLVC Tournament. Six teams from each of the eight regions advance to the NCAA Championships.
The Cougars picked up strong offensive performances from Kindra Westendorf (Effingham), Heather Bonde (Millstadt) and Tina Talsma (Orono, Ontario, Canada). Westendorf led SIUE with 14 kills. Talsma and Bonde followed with 13 and 12, respectively.
SIUE hit .281 as a team while picking up double-digit kills from Andrea Voss (St. Rose) and Allison Buss (Towanda).
Indianapolis and SIUE were close on paper, but Indianapolis outside hitter Shaun McAllister led the Greyhounds with 23 kills. Indianapolis now moves on to the championship match to face the winner of Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky.
Both teams recorded 10 blocks each. Voss led SIUE with five. Lynne Ross powered the Indianapolis defense with seven blocks.
