SIUE earned a two-game sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan today to complete a 4-0 weekend in Great Lakes Valley Conference softball action. The Cougars took two games yesterday from Southern Indiana.
         The Cougars (15-5, 4-0 GLVC) blasted Kentucky Wesleyan (0-8, 0-4 GLVC) for eight runs on 13 hits to take game one 8-0 in five innings.
         Each SIUE hitter in the starting lineup got at least one hit. Second baseman Holly Neuerburg and third baseman Amy Rogers each tallied two RBIs. Shortstop VJ Schmidt and first baseman Melissa Lindgren each went 3-3 from the plate.
         Starting pitcher RyAnn Spann allowed a lead-off single, then shut down the Panthers the rest of the game. She finished the day allowing one hit and recorded seven strikeouts while walking one.
         The Cougars jumped on the Panthers early in game two. SIUE tagged Kentucky Wesleyan with seven runs in the first two innings. SIUE ended up cruising to a 8-0 victory in six innings.
         Centerfielder Jenny Esker went 3-4 in game two, which included three RBIs and two homeruns. Shanna Waldo was 3-3 and stole three bases.
         Mary Heather White picked up the win for SIUE after going six innings, scattering three hits and striking out four.
         The Cougars will next be in action Tuesday afternoon at Cougar Field for a non-conference matchup with Southwest Baptist. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 2:30 p.m.
