Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's softball team rebounded from a 2-1 defeat in game one of a doubleheader in a big way.
         Holly Neuerburg went 3-4 with three RBIs and Koree Claxton and Melissa Lindgren each drove in two runs as the Cougars salvaged the split against Lewis University with a 9-4 decision in game two at Cougar Field Saturday.
         SIUE, now 33-9 overall and 13-3 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, pushed a run across in the first inning in game two after a Lewis error and a Neuerburg RBI groundout.
         Lewis, 23-17 and 12-4 in the GLVC, answered with two runs in the third to take the lead 2-1.
         SIUE would not be outdone as they scored three runs in the bottom-half of the third thanks to a two-run double by Claxton.
         SIUE scored another three runs in the fourth and added two in the sixth.
         Mary Heather White pitched a complete-game victory, giving up four runs - three earned - and scattering seven hits. She struck out three on the day.
         In game one, Lewis capitalized on two SIUE errors when they scored twice in the third inning. Katie Schaefer and Danielle Schaub each had an RBI as Lewis scored twice in the inning.
         It was all Lewis needed as Emily Granath and Mary Jaszczak controlled the Cougar offense the rest of the way.
         SIUE threatened in the sixth after a Claxton RBI single cut the Lewis lead to 2-1. But the Cougars stranded the bases loaded in the inning and Jaszczak struck out the side in the seventh as the Cougars were handed its third conference loss.
         The day was tabbed Senior Day, as SIUE seniors Claxton, Katie Waldo and RyAnn Spann were honored by their teammates following the game.
         SIUE's next action will be Wednesday when it plays host to non-conference foe Lincoln at Cougar Field. The Cougars then travel to Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's next weekend to close it regular season schedule.
