RyAnn Spann and Mary Heather White each pitched complete-game shutouts as the SIUE Cougars swept the Indianapolis Greyhounds in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader Saturday at Indy's Baumgartner Field.
         Spann struck out five in game one of the doubleheader as the Cougars cruised to a 3-0 victory.
         Third baseman Amy Rogers gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI groundout.
         Catcher Cassie Witherell gave the Cougars some insurance runs in the fourth with a two-run double.
         White stymied the Greyhound offense in game two of the doubleheader. She allowed three hits while striking four.
         Centerfielder Jenny Esker drove in two runs in game two, including a solo homerun in the sixth. Designated player Katie Waldo and leftfielder Shanna Waldo each drove in a run as the Cougars took game two 4-0.
         With the sweep and an NKU loss at Wisconsin-Parkside, the Cougars now move into sole possession of first-place in the GLVC standings.
         The Cougars can be assured the top-seed in next weekend's GLVC Championships if it sweeps its doubleheader tomorrow at Saint Joseph's.
