SIUE Continues to Impress

         HIGHLAND HTS., KY. - To say that Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball coach Todd Gober is pleased may be an understatement.
         His 10-1 Cougars ousted West Virginia State and Hillsdale in three games Friday to open the GLVC-GLIAC-WVIAC Tournament, a meeting of some of the top teams in the Great Lakes region.
         SIUE has now won seven straight matches and collected 21 consecutive games won, extending its recently-broken record. The newest record to fall for SIUE was the single-match team hitting percentage as the Cougars hit a stunning .476 against West Virginia State..
         SIUE defeated West Virginia State 30-11, 30-19, 30-20 with 45 kills, six errors on 82 attacks. The Cougars' lone downfall was 13 service errors.
         Andrea Voss led SIUE with 15 kills. Kindra Westendorf and Allison Buss each had eight kills.
         SIUE later downed Hillsdale 20-21, 30-15, 30-25. Buss and Voss lifted SIUE with 13 kills each as the team hit .345.
         The Cougars are now hitting a spectacular .311 as a team heading into Saturday's matches. SIUE faces Grand Valley State at 12:30 p.m. and Alderson-Broaddus at 5:30 p.m.
