Box Score QUINCY, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
handed Quincy University its third straight five-game loss with a
21-30, 30-22, 25-30, 30-20, 15-9 victory in Great Lakes Valley
Conference volleyball Friday night at Pepsi Arena.
SIUE middle hitters Heather Bonde and Tina Talsma lifted
the Cougars with 21 and 18 kills, respectively.
SIUE improved to 23-6 overall and 13-2 in the Great Lakes
Valley Conference. Quincy fell to 10-20 on the season and 5-10 in
the GLVC.
The Cougars face Missouri-St. Louis on the road on
Saturday in the regular season finale. SIUE is one match behind
Southern Indiana in the race for the GLVC title and solidified its
No. 2 seed in next week's GLVC Tournament with Friday's
win.
Against Quincy, the Cougars found themselves down in games
2-1. SIUE led the fourth game from start to finish, forcing a game
five.
In the fifth game, SIUE grabbed a 6-0 lead and then played
even up with Quincy for the rest of the way to complete the
come-from-behind victory.
SIUE's Allison Buss also posted a record-breaking
performance. She recorded 44 digs, breaking the old mark of 33 set
by Yvonne Welch in 1995 and Lindsay Rust in 2000.
Amber Heimann led Quincy with 18 kills and 34
digs.
