SIU Edwardsville's offense exploded for a total of 26 runs in a doubleheader sweep against Wayne State (Mich.) at Roy Lee Field Saturday afternoon. The Cougars took game one by the score of 11-0 and game two 15-3.
        SIUE (4-14) starter Jarad Rettberg went all seven innings in game one, allowing only one hit and striking out nine Wayne State (4-7) batters.
        Every SIUE hitter in the lineup had at least one hit in game one, which was postponed one hour and 15 minutes at the start because of wet field conditions. Brad Scott and Wes Pickering each had two hits. Luke Humphrey had three RBI in the game, and Tim Velten and Joe Wargo each drove in two runs.
        In game two, the Cougar offense picked up just where it left off. The Cougars scored three in the second inning and finished up with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth as SIUE marched to its first back-to-back wins of the season.
        Scott and Humphrey each drove in four runs in the nightcap. Humphrey was 3-for-3 from the plate with two doubles and a triple. Adam Tallman hit 2-for-3 with three RBI.
        Kyle Jones picked up the victory on the mound after pitching five innings, allowing three runs and striking out seven.
        Both teams will be at it again Sunday at Roy Lee Field. Game time is set for noon.
