         Kindra Westendorf (Effingham) led all hitters with 14 kills as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville overpowered Illinois-Springfield 30-17, 30-17, 30-19 in college volleyball on Tuesday.
         SIUE improved to 4-1 overall while the Prairie Stars fell to 1-4
         Heather Bonde (Millstadt) and Shannon Winkeler (Bartelso) also finished the match with 10 kills each for the Cougars. Setter Krystal Majernik picked up 36 assists.
         SIUE hit .361 as a team, including a .556 performance in the middle from Tina Talsma (Ontario, Canada). Talsma also led the Cougars with six blocks.
         Illinois-Springfield was led by Danielle Crossen, who picked up 10 of her team's 22 kills.
         SIUE's next action is Friday in St. Joseph's, Mo., on the campus of Missouri Western. SIUE plays Northwest Missouri and Emporia State on Friday and Missouri Western and Pittsburg State on Saturday.
