Cougars Win Eighth Straight

         EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Even after a slow start the Southern Illinois University volleyball team cruised to its eighth win in row 31-33, 30-25, 30-20, 30-15 over Bellarmine on Friday night.
         Heather Bonde led the Cougar attack with 12 kills and a .550 hitting percentage.
         SIUE improves to 17-5 overall and 7-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Knights drop to 10-9 overall and 4-5 in the league.
         After losing the first game, the Cougars where tied with Bellarmine 24-24 in the second game, when they rattled off six of the next seven points for the win. In the third game, SIUE ran out to 22-4 lead and never looked back. The Cougars led the fourth stanza 11-9 and then went on a 19-6 run to take the match.
         The Cougars hit just .099 in the first two games of the match only to have a .369 hitting percentage in the final two games.
         Freshman Kate Hofeldt led the with 14 kills, Tricia Happe came off the bench with 13 kills and a .407 hitting percentage.
         Krystal Majernik notched 53 assists, 11 digs, and five service aces. Allison Buss had 20 digs, and Jenny Heimann add 11.
         SIUE held the Knights to a .090 hitting percentage
         SIUE entertains Northern Kentucky tomorrow at the Vadalabene Center at 1 p.m.
