Bonde Named GLVC Player of the Year

         Heather Bonde (Millstadt) started her Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball career as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and now completes her senior season earning Player of the Year honors.
         The Cougar middle hitter was named the Player of the Year after the leading the league with a .349 hitting percentage. In 105 games played, Bonde has posted 3.94 kills per game and 1.12 kills per contest.
         Bonde, SIUE's lone representative on the GLVC first team, was one of five SIUE players to earn All-GLVC honors.
         Fellow seniors Kindra Westendorf (Effingham), Krystal Majernik (Normal), and Allison Buss (Towanda) were named to the second team. Freshman outside hitter Kate Hofeldt (Antioch) was named honorable mention.
         Westendorf, an outside hitter, is second on the team in kills per game at 3.04 and hit .225. Majernik now averages 10.25 assists per game and led the conference in GLVC-only matches at better than 12 assists per game. Buss, SIUE's all-time leader in digs, averages 5.16 digs per contest.
         Kristina Eisenmenger, of Northern Kentucky, was named Freshman of the Year. Tracy Rietzke, who guided Rockhurst to the No. 1 seed at the GLVC Tournament, was named the Coach of the Year.
