Cougars Run Win Streak to 14

         No. 14-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville won its 14th-straight game on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep over Quincy in college softball at Cougar Field.
         SIUE, 32-8 overall and 10-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, defeated the Hawks 6-5 in eight innings and 5-2. Quincy falls to 17-19 and 2-6 in the GLVC.
         The Cougars hope to extend their winning streak on Sunday with GLVC doubleheader against Missouri-St. Louis. Game time is noon at Cougar Field.
         Freshman pitcher Lindsay Laas picked up both wins for the Cougars in relief. She improved her season record to 14-3 and has now been the winning pitcher of record in SIUE's last five games.
         In game one, the Cougars outlasted the Hawks as Holly Neuerburg doubled home the winning run in the bottom of the eight inning.
         After SIUE took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Quincy grabbed its only lead of the game with two runs in the fifth on RBIs from Nicole Prager and Teresa Bertelli.
         SIUE answered back in the bottom of the fifth with RBIs doubles from Veronica Schmidt and Ashley Price. SIUE's lead grew to 5-2 in the sixth as Katy Biggs scored on a wild pitch and Neuerburg singled home Shanna Waldo.
         Quincy tied the game in top of the seventh off SIUE starter Alicia DeShasier. The Hawks nearly took the lead but Waldo threw out QU's Bertelli at the plate from center field to end the inning.
         Neuerburg ended the game in the bottom of the eighth with a blast to left field, scoring Waldo from second.
         In game two, SIUE rallied for three runs in the fifth inning behind RBI hits from Schmidt and Price.
         Laas came in relief of Casey Wantland in the top of the fifth.
