Cougars Eliminated by Northwood 1-0

         HIGHLAND HTS., Ky. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville softball and Northwood watched a pitcher's duel unfold on Saturday in an elimination game at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships.
         Northwood used a pair of doubles in the top of the seventh to slip past the Cougars 1-0 and eliminate SIUE from the NCAA Tournament. Northwood's Rachel Minikel doubled off the fence in right field, driving home Reeta Echevarria.
         SIUE completes its season with a 41-15 record. Northwood, 34-13, advanced to the championship game against Northern Kentucky.
         SIUE hurler Lindsay Laas allowed just six hits and held a shutout heading into the seventh innings. Laas, 19-7, was outdueled by Northwood hurler Lisa Shepard, who improved to 24-6. Shepard allowed just two hits, including a two-out, seventh-inning single by Emily Lenart.
         The Cougars drew three walks off Shepard and threatened with runners on second and third in the sixth but came up empty.
