Cougars Drop Pair to UMSL

        Missouri-St. Louis capitalized on several Southern Illinois University Edwardsville miscues on Wednesday and swept a doubleheader from the Cougars 6-1 and 13-7.
        SIUE falls to 27-24 and 18-18 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. UMSL improves to 18-29 and 10-26 in the GLVC.
        The Cougars are now tied with the Bellarmine Knights for the sixth and final spot in the GLVC standings. Bellarmine is 17-17 in league play. With both teams at .500 and playing a four-game series this weekend, anything can happen.
        SIUE and Bellarmine face off at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Roy Lee Field. The series moves to T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, Mo., on Sunday. If one teams wins three of four games, it will qualify for the GLVC Tournament. If there's a split, the league's tiebreaker procedures will go into play.
        On Wednesday, SIUE was roughed up by 27 hits from the Rivermen. SIUE also committed five errors in the nightcap.
        SIUE's Jake Smith was 4 for 7 for the doubleheader.
