Cougars Win Thriller Over Nebraska-Omaha

         Omaha, Neb. -- The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball team came from behind to defeat Nebraska-Omaha 30-20, 23-30, 27-30, 30-27, and 15-11 in an exciting match Saturday evening.
         Kim Potthast led the way for the Cougars with 20 kills, as SIUE improves to 3-1 on the season.
         SIUE jumped on the Mavericks in the first game, gaining a 18-5 lead and never looking back. The Cougars then dropped the following two games before taking a 24-16 lead in game four and tying the match at two. In the final game the Cougars led 9-4, then Nebraska trimmed the advantage to 14-11 before a ball handling error by the Mavericks gave SIUE the victory.
         Setters Krystal Majernik and Mallory Clements combinded for 49 assists for the Cougars. Allison Buss made 25 digs in the match improving her average to 5.50 digs per game.
         Freshman Kate Hofeldt recorded 10 kills and a team high .391 hitting percentage in the match, as the Cougars hit .242 for the contest.
         Earlier in the day the SIUE fell to Wayne State 25-30, 30-25, 21-30, 19-30 with Potthast recording 14 kills in that match. Majernik notched 52 assists and eight digs and Buss recorded 24 digs. Jamie Jones had 12 kills.
         Wayne State hit .305 for the contest as they were led by Jacey Kuck Schwarz, who powered her way to 20 kills and a .419 hitting percentage.
         SIUE returns home to face McKendree on Tuesday night before hosting the Cougar Classic next weekend.
