EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Kim Potthast led all players with 15 kills as 17th-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville overpowered Southern Indiana 31-29, 30-25, 30-15.
         SIUE won its 13th straight Great Lakes Valley Conference match and now 27 straight dating back to last season. The Cougars improved to 22-4 overall and 13-0 in GLVC play.
         The Cougars swept Southern Indiana for the second time this season and the fifth consecutive time overall. Potthast hit .480 for the match and added five blocks.
         Kate Hofeldt joined Potthast in double figures in kills with 12.
         SIUE's defense stepped up for 55 digs, including 20 from libero Beth DeGreeff.
         Emily Ryan led Southern Indiana with 11 kills but also finished with 10 attack errors. Chelsea Doubler added 10 kills for the Screaming Eagles/
         SIUE led 18-10 in game one and had to fight off a USI charge. The Cougars led by as many as nine points in game two. Game three was all SIUE as the Cougars reeled off a 16-4 lead and never looked back.
         The Cougars next face No. 16 Rockhurst in a GLVC rematch. SIUE handed Rockhurst its lone conference loss earlier this season at the Vadalabene Center in five games. The Hawks, 22-2 overall and 11-1, and the Cougars will play in Kansas City, Mo., Friday at 7 p.m.
