         EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville softball team picked up a pair of victories on Friday in the Cougar Classic.
         The Cougars defeated Nebraska-Omaha 5-3, then shuting out Saint Joseph's 2-0 in the night cap at Cougar Field.
         SIUE improves to 5-3 on the season. Nebraska-Omaha and the Pumas both are now even at 1-1 on the year.
         The Cougars face Ferris State and Missouri Western tommorow in the second day of the Cougar Classic. SIUE takes on the Bulldogs at 1 p.m. before a 5 p.m. matchup with the Griffons.
         Alicia DeShasier's three-run homer against the Mavericks broke 1-1 tie in the third inning. DeShasier went 3-6 in the two games as she has now collected a hit in each game this season.
         Kaitlin Colosimo goes to 2-0 on the season after pitching seven innings giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out three against Nebraska-Omaha.
         In the night cap, Sabra McCune pitched the first shutout of her SIUE career against the Pumas. McCune allowed just three hits while striking out eight batters as she improves to 3-2 on the year. McCune also drove in a run with a sacrafice fly in the sixth inning.
         Holly Neuerberg collected three hits on the day, scoring two runs for SIUE. With the game tied 0-0 in the sixth inning against the Pumas, Neuerberg doubled off the center field fence scoring Kaeleigh Rousey to put the Cougars up for good. Neuerberg would later score on McMune's sacrafice fly.                 -siue-
