Cougars Sweep Missouri Southern

        EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville scored five runs in the first inning and cruised to a 12-1 victory over Missouri Southern State.
        SIUE, 3-0, is of to its best start since the 1990 season when the Cougars also got off to a three-game win streak to start the season. Missouri Southern dropped to 0-6.
        Clay Zavada pitched five innings of shutout baseball to collect the victory. Jameson Sheley, Mike White, Adam Schneider, and James Hertel each pitched an inning in relief.
        SIUE's offense pounced on Missouri Southern pitching for 10 hits. SIUE took advantage of three Missouri Southern errors.
        Kyle Amerson came off the bench and replaced Aaron Sester in left field. Amerson blasted his first home run of the season with a two-run shot over the right field fence in the sixth inning.
        SIUE next travels to Northern Kentucky for a four-game Great Lakes Valley Conference series in Florence, Ky., on Saturday and Sunday. The Cougars continue south to Savannah, Ga, for spring break games against Wayne State (Neb.), Tusculum, Concord and a four-game GLVC series against Indianapolis.
