Jones Extends Scoreless Innings Streak

        EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Kyle Jones extended his streak of scoreless innings pitched to 27 Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Saint Joseph's in Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball.
        The Cougars, 11-6-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the GLVC, lost the nightcap 1-0.
        Jeff Darnall singled home the game's only run in the first contest, driving home Cory Bunner.
        Jones, now 4-0 fanned eight Saint Joseph's batters and walked three in the seven-inning contest.
        In the nightcap, both teams struggled with the bat against some strong pitching. Jim Jaworski singled home pinch runner LaRoy Kincaid in the seventh inning for the only run.
        Clay Zavada, 2-1, took the loss despite the unearned run. He struck out nine and walked two in seven innings.
        Saint Joseph's hurlers Matt Enderle and Clay Tingley combined on a two-hit shutout.
        The same two teams battle again in a doubleheader at SimmonsCooper Complex. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
