Rockhurst Sweeps Cougars

        EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Rockhurst unleashed its offense in the 10th inning of the final game of the four-game series, scoring five runs for a 7-2 victory over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
        The Hawks completed the sweep, winning game one 4-1 over the 29th-ranked Cougars.
        SIUE, 14-9-1 overall and 9-8-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, struggled at the plate for the full four-game series, managing just five runs in two days.
        Cameron Cheek took his first loss of the season in game one. Cheek allowed eight hits over six innings. Rockhurst used back-to-back RBI singles by Tyler Knust and Jared Pitts to forge ahead in the fifth inning.
        In game two, the game was sent into extra innings when Rockhurst first baseman misplayed a slow grounder by Jim Grant, allowing Cory Bunner to score from third.
        Tied 2-2, Rockhurst erupted for five runs. Adam Schneider took the loss in relief after walking the first two Rockhurst batters. The Hawks used just two hits and an infield error to collect the five-run inning.
        SIUE returns to action Tuesday at home against first-place Quincy. Game time for the doubleheader is noon.
