        EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball team exploded for 17 runs in a sweep of Quincy 7-3 and 10-2 at SimmonsCooper Complex Tuesday.
        The Cougars used a nine-run eigth inning in the second game to come from behind for the victory. With SIUE trailing 2-1, the Cougars sent 14 batters to the plate collecting, seven hits with eight RBIs.
        SIUE goes to 16-9-1 overall and 11-8-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Quincy falls to 14-9 overall and 12-6 in the league.
        Cory Bunner went 7-9 with five runs scored and two RBIs in the two games.
        Patrick Keller notched his first win of the season with five scoreless innings in the second game. Keller came in during the fifth inning and shut the door on Quincy with seven strikeouts.
        The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one. Jake Smith's two-run single through the right side gave the Cougars a 4-0 advantage in the third inning. In the top of the fifth, Quincy made the score 4-2. Smith collected two more RBIs in the fifth inning with another single into right field that gave the Cougars a 7-2. Smith went 4-7 in the double header with three runs scored.
        Cody Litteken runs his record to 2-0, going five and one-third innings. Litteken struckout two while giving up three runs on five hits.
        In the nightcap, the Hawks scored in each of the first two innings to lead 2-0. SIUE made it 2-1 in the sixth inning. The Cougars tied the game on a double by Jeff Darnall that scored Bunner from first base. Smith then singled to center, and the winning run came home on a throwing error by Brad Shaeffer.
        Darnall was 2-5 with three RBIs in the game. Bryan Newby and Seth Hall each had two-RBI hits in the eigth inning.
        SIUE returns to action Saturday as they travel to Kenosha, Wis., for a four-game series with UW-Parkside.
