Cougars Take Control Of GLVC

         EDWARDSVILLE - The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville softball team took two games from Lewis Friday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
         Behind Sabra McCune, SIUE won the first game 6-2 and notched a 2-1 victory in the night cap.
         The No. 5 Cougars now hold a two-game lead over Lewis, improving to 11-1 in the league and 35-5 overall. The Flyers drop to 24-8 overall and 10-4 in the GLVC. SIUE is up by three games on the loss side.
         SIUE battles UW-Parkside tomorrow in doubleheader at Cougar Field. Game time is set for noon.
         McCune belted a three-run home run in the third inning of game one. SIUE took a 4-0 lead as Libby Lenart drew a bases loaded walk in the fourth inning. Kaleigh Rousey and Mallory Ruggles added RBI singles in the sixth inning for the win.
         McCune went seven innings giving up two unearned runs on four hits. McCune struckout seven Flyers to improve to 19-4 on the year.
         In the night cap, Kaitlin Colosimo notched her 11th win of the year, giving up one run on nine hits. Colosimo had nine strikeouts and one walk.
         The Cougars jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a RBI double by Libby Lenart in the first inning. The Flyers tied the game on a Robin Martz RBI single in the third inning. Alicia DeShasier's sacrafice fly that scored Holly Neuerburg gave SIUE the lead for good in the bottom of the third.
         DeShasier went 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the two games. Libby Lenart drew four walks going 1-3 with two RBIs on the day. Emily Lenart was 3-4 on the day.
         Each team left numerous runners on base with the Cougars leaving 23 and Lewis leaving 13 in the two games.
