        JOLIET, IL - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball swept Lewis 2-0 and 8-1.
        SIUE, 23-11-1 overall and 18-10-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, tied the No. 2 mark on the NCAA Division II record list set by Jacksonville State in 1972 (35 games). Central Missouri State holds the record of 16 in 2005.
        Lewis fell to 3-31 and 2-24 in the GLVC.
        Cameron Cheek tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener as the SIUE pitching staff threw its third consecutive shutout.
        Ryan Czyz and Jake Smith collected RBI singles in the opener as SIUE outhit the Flyer 7-2 in game one.
        The Cougars exercised much more offense in game two as Smith smacked three hits and drove home two runs. SIUE jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first two innings and finished with a four-game sweep of Lewis.
        Adam Tallman hurled four innings and allowed an unearned run in the second inning. Patrick Keller threw the final five innings and earned the win. Tallman and Keller allowed just two hits in the nightcap.
        SIUE lowered its team earned run average to 1.86, which leads all NCAA Division II schools.
        The Cougars are now idle until Saturday when it travels to Evansville, Ind., for a doubleheader at Southern Indiana. The Cougars and Southern Indiana play at Roy Lee Field on Sunday with game time set for noon.
