McCune's Bat Lifts Cougars

         LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville pitcher Sabra McCune collected both wins Sunday in a sweep over Bellarmine, but it was her bat that made the most noise.
         McCune hit three solo home runs in a 7-1, 3-2 sweep over the Knights, including the eventual game-winner in the nightcap.
         Fifth-ranked SIUE softball passed the 30-win mark for the 11th consecutive year improving to a GLVC-leading 31-5 overall and 9-1 in league play. Bellarmine fell to 21-20-1 overall and 5-9 in the GLVC.
         McCune was the offensive hero in the nightcap, coming off the bench to hit third home run while collecting her 16th and 17th win as a pitcher.
         The Cougars led first in game two as Ashley Price placed a successful sacrifice squeeze, scoring Amanda Pucel. SIUE made it 2-0 in the sixth when Alicia DeShasier scored on an infield error.
         Bellarmine tied it in the bottom of the sixth on back-to-back RBI hits from Kim Locke and Jorie Ann Doll. McCune came in relief of SIUE starter Kaitlin Colosimo and shut down Bellarmine before blasting a home run to begin the seventh.
         In game one, McCune went the full seven innings and opened SIUE's scoring with a home run in the second inning. Kaeleigh Rousey followed McCune with a home run of her own as the Cougars collected seven hits in the first four innings off Bellarmine starter Claire Horstman.
         SIUE now returns home for a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday against Central Missouri State. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Cougar Field.
