Cougars Fall To Lock Haven

         SALEM, Va. -- Lock Haven collected 13 hits and defeated Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 13-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Softball Championships at the Moyer Complex.
         SIUE fell to 52-10 after suffering its worst loss of the season since losing to Cal State-Dominguez Hills 8-0 back on February 17.
         The Cougars now move to the consolation bracket and will play Central Oklahoma, which lost its opening game to Cal State-Bakersfield 6-1. The Cougars and the Bronchos will play at 2:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. central time) Friday in an elimination game.
         Lock Haven, 53-4, picked up a strong pitching performance from Kristin Erb, who improved her season record to 33-1. Erb struck out four and scattered five hits.
         SIUE hurler Sabra McCune allowed five runs on seven hits in the first three innings. Her record fell to 33-8.
         Lock Haven's offense was led by All-American shortstop Courtney Hughes, who went 2 for 4 with four RBIs. The Eagles also picked up eight runs off SIUE reliever Kaitlin Colosimo in her three innings of work. It was the most runs the Cougar pitching staff has give up all season.
