SIUE Stuns No. 9 North Alabama

         FLORENCE, Ala. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville finished 4-0 for the weekend, completing a sweep with a stunning 32-30, 18-30, 30-28, 30-26 victory over No. 9-ranked North Alabama.
         Kim Potthast, playing in her only match of the weekend, led the Cougars with 19 kills and 12 blocks. Jamie Jones added five kills and 13 blocks, the most by a Cougar since Andrea Voss had 13 during the 2003 season.
         SIUE setter Mallory Clements turned in another strong performance with her first triple-double of the season after completing the feat twice last season. Clements recorded 15 kills, 44 assists, and a team-leading 21 digs.
         After splitting the first two games, SIUE got behind 8-0 in game three. The Lions looked like they were going to win the third game with a 28-22 lead, but six kills and a pair of blocks gave the Cougars a 30-28 win.
         The Cougars held off the Lions in game four. North Alabama cut SIUE's lead to 27-26 late, but three consecutive kills by Clements, Potthast and Jones gave SIUE the victory.
         Earlier in the day, Emily Rahn, who named the North Alabama Tournament Most Valuable Player, posted 14 kills SIUE defeated Texas-Permian Basin 30-17, 30-23, 30-17.
         The Cougars picked up seven kills from Jones, who played only game three. Kelsey Hubert also added seven kills for the Cougars.
         Clements proved strong at the setter position with 33 assists, five service aces, and six kills. The sophomore helped SIUE to a .264 team hitting percentage in the game.
         SIUE held Texas-Permian Basin in check for the match. Molly Atnip led her tyeam with eight kills.
         The Cougars return to the Vadalabene Center for a 7 p.m. match Tuesday.
