Defense Lifts No. 12 Cougars

         QUINCY, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball won its ninth straight match Tuesday with a 30-24, 30-27, 31-29 victory over Quincy.
         The 12th-ranked Cougars, now 23-5 overall and 15-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, won it with defense, using five blocks each from Samantha Schulte, Kelsey Hubert and Kate Hofeldt. SIUE recorded 10 team blocks to Quincy's five.
         SIUE setter Mallory Clements hit an astounding .625 for the match with 10 kills and no attack errors. She missed a triple-double by one dig after recording 29 assists along with her team-leading four service aces.
         SIUE's defense was led by libero Tiffany Turner, who the Cougars with 23 digs. Emily Rahn added 17.
         Kristin Harris led all hitters with 12 kills for the Hawks, which fell to 18-13 overall and 7-10 in the GLVC.
         SIUE returns home to the Vadalabene Center for its final two regular season matches. The Cougars face Rockhurst at 7 p.m. Friday and Drury at 1 p.m. Sunday.
