No. 18 SIUE Drops Lewis

         EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- The defense was strong and the offense had to be crafty. The bottom line, however, was a victory at the end of the day.
         Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball took a hit from Lewis in game one but came roaring back for a 25-30, 30-20, 30-28, 30-28 victory Saturday at Lucco/Jackson Gymnasium.
         The Cougars recorded 129 digs, a school record for digs in a four-game match and three shy of the overall school record set last season of 132.
         SIUE, now 16-5 overall and 9-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, also corrected its shortfall from the previous day, allowing no Lewis service aces. Lewis dropped only its third match of the season and now holds a 16-3 record with an 8-2 mark in the GLVC.
         Mallory Clements turned in her second triple-double in as many days with 11 kills, 45 assists and a team-high 25 digs. The Cougar junior also led SIUE with three service aces.
         Emily Rahn provided the firepower against Lewis, which also recorded 110 digs in the match. Rahn finished with a team-high 17 kills.
         Sydney Winslow and Kate Hofeldt added 12 and 10 kills each, respectively, for the Cougars.
         Stephanie Sagat, of Lewis, led all players with 19 kills.
         SIUE continues its homestand Friday against Bellarmine at the Vadalabene Center. Game time is 7 p.m.
