No. 13 Cougars Dominate Northern Kentucky

         ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Mallory Clements recorded a service ace on match point as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball dominated Northern Kentucky 30-19, 30-26, 30-18 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships.
         Clements, a junior setter, also recorded a triple-double with 10 kills, 10 digs and 41 assists. She posted more assists than Northern Kentucky had kills (37).
         SIUE improved to 27-6 and will next play the winner of the Grand Valley State-Charleston match at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
         The Cougars spread around the wealth of kills, recording 58 for the match. Kelsey Hubert led all hitters with 11 kills followed by 10 from Emily Rahn and 10 from Clements. SIUE hit .348 for the match, a school record for the Cougars in the NCAA Tournament.
         "I was really happy with the way we played. We were in-system for most of the match," said SIUE Coach Todd Gober.
         SIUE's serving also was a key, according to Gober. SIUE finished with eight service aces, including the match winner. Gober said his team's aggressiveness paid off.
         "We served well tonight and that made it difficult for their top hitters to stay in system," said Gober.
         SIUE set the tone early. Gober said the play of outside hitter Kate Hofeldt boosted the Cougars. Hofeldt hit a team-best .583 for the match with eight kills and one attack error on 12 attacks.
         "Kate came out on fire and was hitting the ball hard," said Gober.
         Northern Kentucky hit .168 for the match and completed its season with a 26-9 record. Liz Holmes, the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year, and Tristen Dye finished with 10 kills each for the Norse.
