         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball got the Coach Lennox Forrester era off to a great start Thursday with a convincing 90-61 victory over Harris-Stowe State at the Vadalabene Center.
         It was the 15th consecutive year that SIUE has won its season home opener.
         Forrester and the Cougars wasted little time in putting the pressure on the Hornets. SIUE came out firing with a 9-0 run to start the game led by a three-pointer from T.J. Gray and ending with a dunk from John Edmison. The Cougars were quickly ahead by double digits within the first four minutes of the game.
         SIUE connected on 11 three-pointers with four from Anthony Jones, who led SIUE with 14 points. The Cougars picked up 13 each from Gray and Asa Clayborne as well as 11 points from Edmison.
         The Cougars dominated the boards 49-33, using its 25 offensive rebounds to score 24 second-chance points.
         SIUE's Doug Taylor also made his presence felt, matching his career high in blocks with six. He also scored seven points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
         Harris-Stowe struggled to start the second half, hitting just 1 of 12 shots from the field. The Hornets finished the game shooting 37.5 percent from the field.
         Phillip B. Stewart was the lone player in double figures for Harris-Stowe State with 15 points.
         SIUE now heads to Michigan to face Great Lakes regional rival Wayne State Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m. ET.
