SIUE Blanks Cal State Stanislaus

         AKRON, OHIO -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville won a 1-0 nail-biter Friday night and advanced in the winner's bracket with a victory over Cal State Stanislaus.
         SIUE, 47-8, will play defending national champion Lock Haven, which advanced with a 6-5 victory over Angelo State. Saturday's 4 p.m. CST game at Firestone Stadium features the two teams with the longest winning streaks in the country. SIUE holds the nation's longest in Division II at 14 games while Lock Haven was won nine straight.
         SIUE Coach Sandy Montgomery called Friday's win a "nail-biter." The Cougar duo of Sabra McCune and Kaitlin Colosimo combined on a seven-hit shutout. Cal State Stanislaus stranded seven runners in the game.
         "They weren't going to get cheated on their at bats," said McCune.
         McCune threw 5 1/3 innings for her 18th win of the season. Colosimo entered the game at a key point as the Warriors loaded the bases with one out in the sixth inning. Colosimo threw for the final five out of the game and earned her third save of the season.
         SIUE's offense managed just three hits. It was back-to-back hits from Jodie Ohlau and Courtney Mall that provided the game winners. Ohlau led off the game with a single, stole second, and scored on Mall's double.
         "We had a game plan to go up there hacking," said Mall. "It (the pitch) was inside. I just got my hands out. I was able to get the clutch hit."
         Omaira Estremera suffered the loss for Cal State Stanislaus, which fell to 50-19. The Warriors will play Columbus State in an elimination game Saturday.
