Cougars Split Five-Game Matches

         DENVER, COLO. - Both matches against Top 25 teams went the distance Saturday for the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball team.
         No. 15-ranked SIUE defeated 11th-ranked Grand Valley State 30-26, 20-30, 21-30, 30-26, 17-15 and then fell to No. 12 Central Missouri State 22-30, 32-30, 30-25, 23-30, 15-8.
         SIUE is now 6-2 after going 2-2 at the Colorado Premier Classic. The Cougars will get a second chance against Central Missouri Wednesday in Warrensburg, Mo.
         SIUE came from behind in the Grand Valley State match, which was the Cougars' first Great Lakes Regional match of the season. SIUE fought off a match point at 14-12 and used a kill by Kelsey Hubert to put away the Lakers 17-15 in game five.
         Four players finished in double figures in kills for the Cougars. Kate Hofeldt led the way with 12 kills.
         In the Central Missouri match, SIUE's Emily Rahn paced the Cougars with 23 kills. Hubert followed with 21. The Cougars won game four of the match but couldn't catch up from an early 4-1 deficit in game five to the Mules.
