Cougars Ready For Home Opener

         EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball team is excited about its home opener 7 p.m. Tuesday against Quincy.
         "They are a risk-taking team, and the match should be an exciting one," said coach Todd Gober.
         No. 14-ranked SIUE just completed a two-game swing through Indiana. The Cougars were able to defeat both Oakland City and Southern Indiana and improve their record to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
         "I am pleased with the team so far. We accomplished what we wanted with our schedule. We were able to identify or our strengths and weaknesses," said Gober. Samantha Schulte (Kenosha, Wis.) is leading the Cougar offensive charge with 133 kill (3.24 per game). With 55 blocks and 158 digs, Kelsey Hubert (Freeburg) also is energizing the Cougar defense. SIUE setter Mallory Clements (Mt. Pulaski) is averaging two kills per game along with her 11.09 assists per game.
         Because of the style of play that Quincy has, Tuesday's match should definitely be a good one for the fans.
         "It does not matter. Quincy will hit the ball from everywhere, and they are a very athletic team," said Gober.
         SIUE then travels to Rockhurst and Drury this weekend to continue GLVC play. Rockhurst is ranked 20th nationally.
