No. 12 SIUE Defeats Saint Joseph's

         EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- The first game of a three-game road trip began with a victory for the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball team.
         The 12th-ranked Cougars defeated Saint Joseph's 30-28, 30-23, 30-20 en route to its eighth consecutive victory. SIUE improved to 14-3 overall and 7-0 in the GLVC.
         SIUE now travels to Highland Heights, Ky., to face the Norse of Northern Kentucky, ranked No. 24 nationally in the AVCA/NCAA Division II poll. NKU was idle Thursday.
         On Thursday Samantha Schulte sparked the attack with 12 kills followed by 10 from outside hitter Emily Rahn. As a team, SIUE posted 52 kills for the match and hit .192 against a Ssaint Joseph;s defense that garnered 68 digs.
         SIUE's defense, however, bettered the Pumas with 81 digs led by 14 from libero Tiffany Turner and 13 from setter Mallory Clements, who added 36 assists and eight kills.
         Sara Carmer led the Pumas with 12 kills. SJC was held to a .101 hitting percentage with 34 kills.
         After traveling to Northern Kentucky Friday, the Cougars end their raod trip Saturday at No. 25 Indianapolis.
