VALPARAISO, Ind. - Valparaiso scored twice in the first half and went on to a 2-0 victory over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in women's college soccer. 

SIUE Coach Derek Burton said the 5-6 Cougars played well in the first 15 minutes but did not recover from the two-goal deficit. 

"We changed a few things in the second half," said Burton. 

Despite the changes, SIUE finished with nine shots to Valpo's 12. Elizabeth Valenti led the Cougars with three shots. 

Valpo, now 9-4-1, scored both goals off SIUE starter Kaci Backs. Jackie Thomas scored on a header from Laura Murphy and Dana McGlone at 28:15. Sarah Jewell stole the ball near SIUE's goal and made the turnover into an unassisted goal at 33:32. 

"We have to regroup and get ready for a good team Wednesday against Evansville," said Burton. The Cougars face off with the Aces at 4 p.m.
