Flames Hold Off Cougars

         CHICAGO, Ill. - Despite a school-record 19th triple-double from Mallory Clements, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball team dropped a four-set match Tuesday at Illinois-Chicago.
         The Flames, 13-15, defeated SIUE 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 at the Flames Athletic Center.
         SIUE dropped to 11-13 and now looks to the postseason at the National Transitional Challenge Tournament in Smithfield, R.I. The tournament begins Friday on the campus of Bryant University and features all of the schools in year one of the transition to NCAA Division I status -- SIUE, Bryant, South Dakota, North Dakota, Houston Baptist, Bryant and Seattle.
         On Tuesday, SIUE jumped out to an early lead on the Flames when Clements recorded a kill on set point. The senior from Mt. Pulaski finished with a match-high 12 kills for the Cougars and added 10 digs as well as 33 assists. Clements hit double digits in three different statistical categories. SIUE hit a match-high .357 in the first set with 20 kills in its first 25 points.
         Four SIUE players completed the match with double digits in kills. Sydney Winslow collected 11 while Emily Rahn and Noelle Franke each had 10.
         The Flames swept the next three sets behind 16 kills from Katarina Nedeljkovic and 15 more from Katerina Hanackova. Illinois-Chicago hit .259 for the match with 59 kills.
