         SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball ended its first NCAA Division I schedule with a victory Saturday, defeating Seattle 25-21, 25-21, 31-29 in the third-place match of the National Transitions Tournament.
         The Cougars completed the season with a 13-14 record. SIUE Coach Todd Gober said he was happy that his seniors went out on a high note.
         Senior Kelsey Hubert led the Cougars with a .462 hitting percentage on 14 kills. Samantha Schulte hit .385 with six kills.
         "Sam and Kelsey really had a great match today both blocking and hitting," said Gober.
         Sophomore Sydney Winslow led all players with 17 kills. Senior Mallory Clements missed a triple-double by one kill with nine kills, 42 assists and 16 digs. Senior Emily Rahn posted a match-high 20 digs.
         Gober also praised libero Tiffany Turner. "Tiffany played incredible defense and had some big saves for us," he said.
         Seattle, 10-23, was led by Katelyn Dill, who finished with 12 kills on 50 attacks.
         SIUE won the battle on kills 56-40.
