Cougars Fall in Heartbreaker

         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville dropped a five-set match Tuesday to future Ohio Valley Conference member Eastern Kentucky.
         The Colonels won the match 32-30, 17-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-12. EKU improved to 6-19 while the SIUE dropped to 11-12.
         SIUE dropped a pair of games which went extra points. In set one, Eastern Kentucky held off a set point at 24-23 and played a back-and-forth number of points until Amanda Wilson and Kelsey Rose blocked SIUE's Sydney Winslow for set point at 32-30.
         SIUE coach Todd Gober said it was a frustrating start.
         "We played hard tonight, but made a lot of mistakes," said Gober.
         The Cougars controlled the next two sets by winning the five of the final six points in set two and then winning 11 consecutive points midway through the third set.
         Eastern Kentucky, behind 24 kills from Lindsey Loescher, forced a fifth set when the Colonels won the final six points of the fourth set. Down 24-20, the Colonels' Abby O'Connor served out the set.
         SIUE clearly led Eastern Kentucky in kills 76-59 with five players in double figures. Emily Rahn led SIUE with a season-high 20 followed by 16 from Winslow, 13 from Noelle Franke, 12 from Samantha Schulte and 10 from Kelsey Hubert.
         The Cougars' regular season comes to a close next Tuesday when they travel to Illinois-Chicago for a 7 p.m. match.
