SIUE Earns No. 2 Seed for GLVC Tourney

           EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville secured the No. 2 seed in the West Division of the Great Lakes Valley Conference men's basketball race and next will face off against Saint Joseph's in the quarterfinal round of the league tournament.
           The game is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Vadalabene Center.
           SIUE, winners of nine out of its last 11 games, gave its five seniors a proper sendoff Saturday with an 82-71 victory over Rockhurst. The win improved SIUE's record to 17-10 overall and 10-9 in the GLVC.
           T.J. Gray, a senior, now has 101 three-pointers for the season after hitting four more against Rockhurst. He led SIUE in scoring with 20 points.
           Senior Asa Clayborne recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
           Seniors Anthony Jones and J.B. Jones, who share the all-time lead in games played at SIUE with 118, scored 13 and 11 points, respectively. Doug Taylor, the fifth SIUE senior starter Saturday, recorded three more blocks and extended his career blocks record to 139.
           John Edmison, a junior, added 10 points off the bench.
           SIUE took hold of the game by halftime with a 36-28 lead. The Cougars committed a season-low four turnovers and used its advantage from beyond the arc with 11 three-pointers to slow up Rockhurst.
           Alden Smith powered the Hawks attack with 28 points and 15 rebounds.
           On Tuesday, SIUE will face Saint Joseph's, now 17-10 overall. SJC defeated SIUE 82-60 back on Jan. 19 at the Vadalabene Center.
