Women's Cross Country

Brown, Cameron Lead Cougars

          ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Both the men's and women's cross country teams for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville finished sixth in the team scoring at the opening meet of the season. 
          Competing at the Big River Early Bird in St. Louis' Forest Park, the Cougars' Kayla Brown and Kyle Cameron both earned top 10 individual finishes. 
          Brown, a junior, finished in sixth as an individual in a time 14 minutes, 37.6 seconds, in the 4,000-meter race. She was a mere 17 seconds behind women's champion Beth Herndon, who was competing unattached as a member of the Washington University alumni team. 
          SIUE finished with 161 points. Marquette was the team champion with a score of 30. 
          On the men's side, Cameron took fourth over in 18:58.2. He trailed Marquette's Kyle Saginus, who posted a winning time of 18:42.9. 
          Freshman Marc Amarillas lifted the Cougars as he and teammate Sean Gosewich finished at 30th and 31st place. Amarillas posted a time of 20:16.9 in the 6,000-meter race. 
          Marquette won the team title with 36 points in the men's race. SIUE, with 168 points, bested Saint Louis with 173 and Tennessee-Martin with 363.
