SIUE Overpowers Greenville

          EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball raced to a 22-3 lead early and overpowered Greenville Monday 88-55 at the Vadalabene Center.
          The Cougars improved to 6-13 and will redouble their efforts for a Wednesday matchup against Purdue-Calumet. Tip-off time is 7 p.m. at the Vadalabene Center.
          SIUE coach Lennox Forrester said the Cougars put out a great effort against the Panthers, especially in the opening minutes of the game.
          "We started the game with good energy," said SIUE Coach Lennox Forrester. "I was proud of the effort tonight."
          SIUE scored the first nine points of the game and then added an additional run of 13-3 to push past Greenville. Edmison hit one of his two three-pointers to put SIUE up 22-3 with 10:30 to play in the first half. The Cougars kept up the pressure, bustling to a 45-13 lead with 3:30 to play in the first half.
          SIUE used a balanced attack against the Panthers, now 8-7. Brandon Dunson, who came off the bench, tied Nikola Bundalo for the team lead in scoring with 12 points. Kevin Stineman added 10. Eight different players scored seven or more points against Greenville and no one Cougar played more than 23 minutes.
          The Cougars shot 55.6 percent in the first half and held a 47-22 lead by halftime. Greenville, meanwhile, struggled from the field in the first 20 minutes and were held to 29 percent shooting.
          "Our guys fed off the energy of the fans," Forrester added.
          Ben Cochran was the lone Panther to score in double figures with 12 points.
