EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Marc Amarillas led all Southern Illinois University Edwardsville runners Saturday at Border Wars.

Amarillas placed 14th among the collegiate runners in the 8,000-meter cross country race in a time of 26 minutes, 43.27 seconds. Central Missouri's Laban Sialo was the Border Wars champion in a time of 25:08.34.

Paradise Valley won the team title with a near perfect score of 20. Paradise Valley had a pack of five runners finishing after Sialo. Central Missouri placed second with 45 and were followed by Bradley (90), SIUE (94) and Kaskaskia College (150).

Steve Werths placed 17th for SIUE. The Cougar senior ran the soft and very wet SIUE Cross Country course in 26:50.60. He was followed by Sean Gosewisch (27:08.23), Aaron Werths (27:45.09) and Brad Walwer (28:00.57).

SIUE closes out the 2009 season next Friday at the Bradley Invite in Peoria.
