EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Three players finished with double figures in kills Tuesday as Southeast Missouri State defeated Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball in four sets.
Senior Night didn't go as planned for the Cougars as they fell to SEMO 25-18, 25-14, 22-25, 25-20.
Jessica Hemann led SIUE with 13 kills and an impressive .500 hitting percentage. Sydney Winslow added 11 kills for the Cougars.
"I think Sydney Winslow has stepped up the last month. She wants the ball when the game is on the line," said SIUE Coach Todd Gober.
SEMO plays nearly faultless volleyball in the first two sets with six attack errors in set one and one in set two. The Cougars, 1-24, turned the tables in the third set with four kills each from Winslow, Hemann and Noelle Franke.
SIUE's defense garnered 73 digs, including 20 from libero Sammi Minton. "She brings fire. She's only a freshman but she has a lot of leadership potential," said Gober.
SEMO came up big with eight blocks, including five from Emily Maher. Emily Hughes recorded a .345 hitting percentage and a team-leading 13 kills. Karleigh Delong and Claire Keaton added 12 kills each as the Redhawks improved to 11-15 overall.
