MARTIN, Tenn. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball turned in its best offensive performance of the season Friday but dropped a tough five-setter to UT Martin.

The Skyhawks, 8-19 overall, defeated the Cougars 25-19, 23-25, 28-26, 25-23, 15-12. SIUE, 1-24, heads to Murray State for an 11 a.m. matchup with the Racers.

The Cougars outplayed the Skyhawks in several categories, including kills (65-64) and blocks (7-4.5). SIUE picked up a team-high 15 kills from Karie Downing and 11 each from Kelsey Mosher, Sydney Winslow and Jessica Hemann.

SIUE setter Jamie Mueller, who finished with 51 assists, collected six kills on seven attack attempts. SIUE boasted a .260 hitting percentage, tops for the 2009 season.

UT Martin rode the hitting of Lauren Montague, who posted 26 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. The Skyhawks hit .226 for the match.

The Skyhawks came back from a 2-1 set deficit to edge the Cougars in the fourth set 25-23. UT Martin started fast in the fifth set, grabbing an 8-2 lead before SIUE closed the set to within two points before the match ended.
